EDGE of Existence

The kaka was once abundant throughout New Zealand, but deforestation and the introduction of new predators/competition restricted it to only a few areas by the year 1930.  It can still be found in good numbers in some national parks and offshore islands, but now many large forests are empty of the kaka’s raucous call.
